Oliver St John Gogarty
The present building has an evocative 19th century boarding-house appearance about it but the façade dates back to only 1994.
The pub itself was founded around 1850. Oliver St John Gogarty, a writer who later became prominent in Irish political affairs in the first half of the 20th century, was a one-time friend of James Joyce and the model for the character Buck Mulligan in Ulysses. © www.patliddy.com
