The Stags Head
The Stags, a pub with the ambience of elegant old Dublin The Stags Head is a traditional pub situated on Dame Court in the city centre. The easiest way to find the bar is to walk down Dame Street till you find a mysterious dark alley and on the other side lays The Stags Heads.

The Stags Head dates back a few centuries but was rebuilt in 1895 by the architect, A.J. McLoughlin. A veritable shrine to the art of drink, McLoughlin designed the bar with stag-themed stained glass windows, mirrors, wood panelling and of course a large stag's head over the bar. This lavishly redesigned Victorian bar was an instant success with Dublin punters in the 1890s and was even frequented by a young James Joyce.

The Stag's Head ambience of elegant, old Dublin has seen the bar used in movies such as Educating Rita and The Treaty and a recent add campaign for Guinness.

The Stags Head today has bars on three floors and is still a very popular meeting point for Dubliners. Taking in a broad cross section of the city, the bar is teaming with Trinity students, office workers, civil servants and clubbers. The bar has one of the best pints of Guinness in town and it is very reasonably priced for the inner city. They also do a fine line in pub food with tasty dishes of a traditional fare.

The Stags Head can get busy at the weekend and had to open a new bar upstairs to deal with the demand. There is no better bar in the city to find the kind of gregarious, warm atmosphere of Dublin than the Stag's Head.
