There are also various small pools in Hotel Leisure Centres and of course, on the nice day, a bit of sea swimming can be a refreshingly brisk alternative. The Forty Foot is an attractive point (south of Dun Laoghaire) to jump into the drink.
It's manned during daylight hours by wizened old locals who accept donations into their biscuit tin, but if you're a tight-fisted git, they mightn't alert anyone as you're sucked out to sea. On a more serious note, the currents can indeed be strong,
so unless you're a very strong swimmer, don't go out on your own and don't go beyond the rock. Always remember that the further you swim out, the further you have to swim back!
