GETTING AROUND / TAXIS
Taxi's in Dublin.
Increased availablitly of taxi's in Dublin means that it's easy to travel to and from Dublin city, day or night.

Transport in Dublin city now provides passengers with lots of options offering excellent services. The massive increase of taxis in Dublin since the deregulation of licenses means that Dubliners and tourists can call at taxi with little difficulty. The numbers of taxi's on Dublin's roads has almost tripled since deregulation.

There are now over 12,000 taxis and over 1,200 hackney cabs available in Dublin city. This means travelling by taxi will be almost effortless in comparison to a few years ago when there were only a paltry 2,700 taxis in operation on Dublin roads.

Top tips when travelling by Taxi in Dublin include always get an estimate of the fare to your destination before you get in. Taxi's have become much more customer friendly with the majority of Dublin cabs providing a receipt printer. Receipts will show all the general details of your journey including the cab number, the fare including any extra charges, the time taken and the distance travelled.

If you can try to avoid travelling during the morning and evening rush periods (8am-9.30am & 5-7pm), not to mention at lunchtime, do so. However if you are moving at these times and let's face it, you probably will be, do give yourself plenty of leeway.

The National Union of Taxi Drivers in Ireland has an excellent website that is informative and includes a directory of recommended Taxi companies in Dublin and other cities around Ireland.  The directory also caters for those who are looking for wheelchair accessible Taxi's - click here to go directly to the National Union of Taxi Drivers in Ireland website.
