Alicia Keys
Alicia Keys, modern day soul diva, come to Olympia Theatre on the 27th of June. The last decade has seen the return of the soul diva with the appearance of Beyonce Knowles. Lauryn Hill, Jill Scott and India Arie in the music charts. Firmly among their ranks and getting better with each album,  Alicia Keys brings her stunning live reputation to Dublin for a concert on the 27th of June.

Alicia Keys was born in 1981 in Harlem, New York and her musical talents became apparent from a young age. She is a classically trained pianist and former student at Manhattan's Professional Performance Arts School. While she was attending Columbia University, a major label bidding war broke out for her musical talents and she eventually signed a deal with Arista Records. Arista Records founder, Clive Davis left Arista to start J Records in 1999 and Keys went along with Davis on his new venture.

Alicia Keys collaborated with luminaries such as executive producer, Jermaine Dupri and soul legend, Isaac Hayes on her debut for J Records. With the release of the single “Fallin'”, a song about a troubled relationship that references James Brown's “It's A Man's World”, Keys scored a massive international hit that introduced her incredible talent to the world. Her debut album, Songs in A Minor, an exotic fusion of urban R&B, hip-hop and blues, sold 50,000 copies on the first day of its release in July 2001. Songs in A Minor was recognised a modern day soul classic and picked up five trophies at the 2002 Grammy awards.

Keys follow up album The Diary of Alicia Keys was two years in the making and is just as impressive as her debut album. Featuring the wonderful single “You Don't Know My Name”. The Diary of Alicia Keys debuted at the top of the US charts in the first week of its release. Alicia Keys has said that she possesses an “old soul”, which might explain her ability to recreate the warmth and musical ingenuity of '70s soul music with a sound that is so fresh and original. As witnessed on her recent appearance on Later on Jools Holland, Keys is a formidable live talent and this concert in the Olympia Theatre is not one to miss.
