Madness
Madness, London's rude boy hit makers of the 80's play the Point on the 6th of December. Madness along with The Specials and The Beat spearheaded the ska revival in the late '70s and early '80s. As the band became more popular they broadened their musical horizons to incorporate soul and classic pop into their musical mix. Madness was one of the most popular British bands of the early '80s and have remained a band held in many people's affections as well as being a major influence and landmark in British music.

Madness was formed in 1978 and comprised the musical talents of Graham “Suggs” McPherson, Chas Smash, Mike Barson, Chris Foreman, Lee Thompson, Mark Bedford and Dan Woodgate. In 1979 the band released their debut single “The Prince” on Two-Tone Records. The single was a success and the band followed it up with the Prince Buster song “One Step Beyond”. Madness recorded their debut album, One Step Beyond and released the album at the end of 1979. The album went to number two in the charts and stayed in the charts for a year.

The band went onto release such classic British pop albums as Absolutely, Seven and The Rise And Fall. They were never out of the charts in the early '80s with hits like “Baggy Trousers”, “House of Fun”, “Our House” and the Labi Siffre's song, “It Must Be Love”. The band released their last album Mad Not Mad and disbanded in 1986. But in 1992 the band reformed for two performances in Finsbury Park which became known as Madstock. Madstock became an annual event giving Madness the chance to showcase some of their Ska peers and younger British pop acts in the line-up.

In 1999 Madness released their new album, Wonderstruck reuniting the band with the talented producers Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley and featuring the songs of their main writing talent, Mike Barson. The album featured ska tunes such as “The Communicator” and “Drip Drop” and pop songs such as “Lovestruck” and “Johnny The Horse”. This gig in The Point should be a great night of Nutty boy fun, so get your dancing feet down there and start skanking.
