The Project TheatreAn Indian Season of theatre, art and film to run during August and September in Dublin.
The Project Theatre Curator, Grant Watson has compiled a very stimulating Indian Season. This special season displays India in a contemporary light. It shows how India has been a meeting point for Eastern and Western cultures.
The Indian Season at the Project Theatre includes a collection of Irish premieres of films from Indian filmmakers. A riveting play called The Alien based on a film script from acclaimed Indian filmmaker, Satyajit Ray will be performed during September. A cultural collision of fantastic art will be exhibited with Indian artist Harsha and Belfast born artist Heather Allen.
The Project curator, Grant Watson has been collaborating with Indian artists and studying Indian art since 1997. He points out that this very special and free of charge Indian season is "an unique opportunity for people to engage with Indian culture".
This three part season of Indian delights will explore a cosmopolitan side of India and engage strong content about a richly cultural and changing country.
The free Indian Film Collection is entitled Home and the World and will be screened in the Cube from 12th August until 27th August. Curator Grant Watson collaborated with Indian curator Suman Gopinath in choosing a selection of provocative and exciting films. Home and the World include a full-length feature of the critically acclaimed Bollywood version of Macbeth as well as films from the very reputable Indian filmmaker Satyajit Ray.
The Alien will run for three nights at the Project Theatre as part of the Indian Season. This play is written by German artist, Matti Braun and inspired by an unseen screen-play written by Satyajit Ray. The Alien tells the story of an extraterrestrial landing in a rural Bengali village and explores the reactions of the locals. The Alien combines visual arts and theatre culminating in a riveting and original production performed by a cast of 13 connected to the Project Arts Centre.
The Art Exhibition will conclude this Indian Season at the Project Arts Centre. The collaboration of Indian artist Harsha exhibiting alongside Belfast born artist, Heather Allen is set to be an exciting piece. Both artists will meet from either ends of the gallery with simultaneous wall drawings.
The Indian Season promises to be a stimulating season well worth attending at the Project Theatre.
