The Yukawa Chan piano duo come to the capitol on their nationwide Irish tour performing works by Mozart, Falla and Debussy at a highly anticipated concert in March.
Cassie Yukawa and Rosey Chan first began collaborating in 2003 at the Royal College of Music where they had both studied with Yonty Solomon.
Cassie Yukawa was born in London in 1981 and began her musical tuition in Tokyo at the age of four, while Rosey Chan began her musical studies at the age of six. They were aware of each other's talents as they rose through the competition circuit before they crossed paths in the Royal College of Music and began playing together.
Performing everything from standard works by Mozart and Rachmaninov to contemporary works by John Cage and Kenneth Hesketh, Chan and Yukawa merge the intimacy of the soloist with the power of an orchestra in their dramatic renderings of some of the finest works in the classical canon.
After causing a stir in the classical scene with a handful of performances, The Yukawa Chan piano duo made their South Bank Centre debut at the Purcell Room last year as part of the Park Lane Group Young Artists Series to critical acclaim.
The duo were soon receiving glowing reviews in The Guardian and The Times and featured alongside several major classical artists at the Royal Albert Hall, London for Classical Response, a benefit concert in aid of Tsunami relief.
At their Wigmore Hall debut last July, The Yukawa Chan piano duo performed the UK premiere of Louis Andriessen's Hague Hacking alongside works by Rachmaninov and Piazzola.
The Yukawa Chan performed the Mozart Concerto No. 10 fro Two Pianos in Eb K365 at the launch of a new orchestra, Camerata Wales under Owain Arwel Hughes at Cadogan Hall, London and at their Welsh debut at Saint David's Hall, Cardiff.
