Mark Knopfler & Emmylou Harris - An Evening Together

Bring their formidable musical talents together for a concert at The Point Theatre on Saturday, the 10th of June.

Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris come to the capitol for a special evening of duet performances featuring songs from their forthcoming album, All The Roadrunning alongside songs from their own solo careers.

 

Having met at a Chet Atkins TV special, Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris began recording songs like "Red Swaggering" and "Donkey Town" for Knopfler's 2000 solo album Sailing To Philadelphia.

 

Mark Knopfler liked the songs so much he kept them off the final album, hoping that Harris would be able to find the time to cut some more tracks with him. Over the next few years, the dynamic duo found time in their hectic schedules to add to their song collection and finished off the opus over a week in the studio last year.

 

With heartfelt songs like "Beachcombing", "If This Is Goodbye" and "Beyond Belief", All The Roadrunning finds Knopfler's bluesy voices merging with Harris's angelic country harmonies rekindling the glory of the great country duets.

 

With Dire Straits, Mark Knopfler won a host of Grammy awards and became one of the biggest rock bands in the world with hit albums like Love Over Gold and Brothers In Arms and international hit singles like "The Sultans of Swing", "Romeo and Juliet" and "Money for Nothing".

 

An all-round renaissance man, Knopfler has produced albums for Bob Dylan, Randy Newman and Van Morrision, scored several movies including Local Heroes and Wag the Dog and released a number of critically acclaimed solo albums like Golden Heart, Ragpicker's Dream and Shangri-La.

 

One of the great country singers, Emmylou Harris came to prominence in music scene for her legendary duets with Gram Parsons in the early '70's and went on to forge her own solo career with hit albums like Pieces of the Sky, Luxury Liner and Blue Kentucky Girl.

 

Emmylou Harris has brought roots music to a new level of prominence and respect, championing new songwriters such as Rodney Crowell, Townes Van Zandt and Gillian Welch and recording contemporary country classics like Wrecking Ball, Red Dirt Girl and Stumble Into Grace.
