The Dice Bar is situated on the Corner of Queen Street and Benburb Street, off Arran Quay on the Northside of the city. Or should I say it's situated on Queen and Benburb, as the bar is stuffed with references to New York.
The décor of the pub is coloured in the dark black and reds of an East Village Bar in Manhattan. With the electic music mix and laid back feel in the bar you could imagine you were somewhere off 4th Street sinking a bottle of beer. With Huey from The Fun Lovin' Criminals as an investor in the bar, The Dice Bar's air of cool New York sophistication takes on real credibility.
The bar features music every night of the week and the DJ's selections tend to be quality stuff guaranteed to improve your mood for the night. The Dice Bar has done very well from those in their late '20s and early '30s who moved over to the trendy Dublin 7 area from the Southside in the last five years.
The atmosphere in the pub is very easy-going even on a busy Saturday night with a more mature and relaxed clientele than you would find in some of the city's bigger pubs. Seats can be at a premium but with DJs like Poppy on Saturday nights playing the best soul, blues, country and roots music from the last five decades who wants to be sitting down.
What makes The Dice Bar special is when the whole bar can erupt into spontaneous dancing usually around the midnight mark. And don't be surprised to find the doorman James right in the middle of the shuffling melee. So, for a walk on the wild side you can do no better than The Dice Bar.
