The Oak is a small bar with an old wooden interior, and a relaxing atmosphere.
The Oak preceded its sister bar, Thomas Reads by quite a few years and still retains some of its old time feel. The Oak has been a popular boozer in Dublin for the last few decades and still attracts much of its old clientele. The Bar is situated on Dame Street across the street from the salubrious grounds of Dublin Castle and Dublin City Hall.
The Oak is a traditional style of Dublin pub with dark wooden paneling, stylish mirrors, mosaics, stools for seating and an intimate atmostphere. The Guinness is very nice in The Oak and the bar offers a wide selection of beers from the continent. Often populated with an older crowd than Thomas Reads it is a good bar for a social night out of drinking and conversation.
Like all Temple Bar pubs, The Oak can get a bit hectic at the weekend where it's a very popular starting point to a night's drinking in Dublin. The Oak also offers a very comfortable an enjoyable midweek pint when the atmosphere is a little bit less chaotic. But if you want something more exciting on a weekend night you can start with a pint in The Oak and head across the way to Thomas Read for a wilder night.
