The George, one of Dublin's most famous Gay Bars, is located on Georges Street.
The George is one of Dublin's liveliest bars with a crazy party pumping in the Dance Bar and Club area while a quieter night happening in the more traditional gay bar environs of the Old Bar, which is known affectionately as "Jurassic Park".
Although The George is one of Dublin's oldest and well-known gay bars today, the bar was a quite and discreet bar in the '80's. As Georges Street became one of the hottest spots in town in the '90's and the Irish Gay scene began taking hold of the capital, The George became one of the most popular bars and nightclubs in Dublin.
Every night, The George transforms into a nightclub with young and gay suburbanites shaking their stuff to classic dance anthems with a stage for exhibitionists and a spacious mezzanine overlooking the dancefloor floor. The atmosphere is great, the drinks are tasty and the staff are helpful and friendly.
The George is also famous for Shirley's Bingo Sundays, a hilarious variety show hosted by TV star Shirley Temple Bar, which is about to enter its tenth year and the bar has also featured live PA's by international pop stars like Jimmy Somerville, Bananarama and Belinda Carlysle. And on Sunday afternoons, enjoy some cool jazz and afternoon tea courtsey of jazz group Zrazy!
A great night out in Dublin, The George is well worth a look.
