From 8th February, UCI Tallaght and the Irish Film Institute will be showing Azur & Asmar: The Princes' Quest, a fantastic new fairytale from French writer/director/animator Michel Ocelot.

The film tells the story of two boys. Blonde-haired, blue-eyed Azur is the son of a nobleman and dark-skinned, brown-eyed Asmar is the son of Jenane, Azur's nurse. Despite their differences, Jenane raises the boys like brothers, and that's exactly how they behave - squabbling and bickering one minute, huddling up together to hear another of Jenane's wonderful bedtime stories the next. They're particularly fascinated by the tale of the Fairy Djinn, a beautiful and magical princess waiting to be released from captivity by a good and heroic prince.

But the boys lose each other after being cruelly seperated by Azur's father, who sends Azur to the city for a private education and banishes Jenane and Asmar from his home. Years later, Azur sets out to find Jenane and Asmar and fulfil his dream of rescuing the Fairy Djinn. Unfortunately, Asmar also has his heart setting on releasing the princess, and the former best friends become rivals as they compete against each other in an exciting and magical quest.

The Princes' Quest received standing ovations at the 2006 Cannes and Annecy film festivals, winning rave reviews from critics for its stunning visuals and compelling story - and no wonder! The film manages to deal with themes such as racial and religious tolerance, respect for women and the virtues of cooperation and good manners while still delivering a rip-roaring adventure and a fantastically fun film for all the family.
Don't miss it!
