When President Ashton (William Hurt) is shot moments after his arrival in Spain for a summit meeting on the global war against terror, chaos ensues. It's only as we follow the perspective of several of the witnesses to the attempted murder that the terrifying truth behind the assassination attempt is revealed.
In a world dominated by linear plotlines and the "three act structure" followed by most Hollywood movies, Vantage Point's narrative technique - telling an entire story by rewinding to show us the same event from different points of view - is intriguing. As we watch the same event unfold through the eyes of a number of characters - including a tourist with a video camera (Forrest Whitaker, a news reporter (Sigourney Weaver) and the secret servicemen charged with protecting the president (Matthex Fox and Dennis Quaid) we learn more about what happened, and slowly the pieces start to fall into place.
Each "rewind" also gives us a look at the events directly after the shooting, taking us slightly further into the future with every shift in view point. The film's unusual structure and fantastic ensemble should be enough to capture the imagination of film buffs everywhere, while the "24"-esque storyline and promises of explosions, car chases and the-doctor-from-Lost will probably be enough to sway the rest!
