He's been acting for years, but this summer has seen Shia Labeouf's career sky-rocket. He's been cast as everything from the quirky sidekick of a team of giant space robots (Transformers) to a penguin (Surf's Up) and he's currently shooting Indiana Jones and The Crystal Skull, playing the son of Marian Ravenwood (Indy's love interest from Temple of Doom). He's definitely one to watch. Ironic really, since in Disturbia, it's Shia doing the watching.
Having gone ever-so-slightly off the rails after his father's death, Kale (LaBeouf) finds himself under house-arrest. As the financial strain begins to take it's toll on Kale's now-single mom Julie (Carrie-Ann Moss), Kale has to give up creature comforts like his Xbox and iTunes, and find other ways to entertain himself instead. But a pair of binoculars and an overactive imagination can be a dangerous combination. Especially when there's been a string of murders in the neighbourhood and Kale's neighbour, Mr. Turner (David Morse), seems to be acting so suspiciously. Can Kale really trust his own eyes, or is he slowly succumbing to the effects of cabin-fever?
This psychological thriller owes more than a little to the legendary Mr. Hitchcock, but that's no bad thing. The talented cast and modern twists will still keep you gripped. And, of course, Shia Labeouf proves once more that he really is, finally, the man of the moment.
