Jenna (Kerry Russell) works as waitress in a cheery southern diner, where she bakes such delicious treats as "I hate my husband" pie. She's also unhappily married (surprise, surprise!) and dreams of one day winning enough money in a pie-baking contect to leave her layabout husband Earl (Jeremy Sisto) once and for all. So she doesn't exactly jump for joy when she discovers she's pregnant. But then a new doctor (Nathan Fillion) arrives in town and mixes things up. With the support and love of her friends and co-workers at Joe's Pie Diner, Jenna exhibits her skills with crusts and fillings - as well as the courage to create the life of her dreams.

Despite the real-life tragedy surrounding the film (40 year old writer/director/co-star Adrienne Shelley was murdered as the film went into post-production), Waitress is quirky romantic comedy full of warmth and humour. A fitting legacy for its talented creator.
