Action-packed love story about British settlers meeting native Americans for the first time.
Director Terrence Malick (Thin Red Line) returns with an epic movie set in Virginia in 1607. The New World is based on the historical records of British settlers first encountering Native Americans known as the Powhatan tribe. This is an action-packed drama that details the bloody territorial battle for survival. A sharp and moving love story runs in tandem with the action as English Captain, John Smith (Colin Farrell) and the native American Princess Pocahontas fall in love.
Captain John Smith has been in shackles on the voyage to America but is set free to lead a group of men to the natives. All his men are killed by the Powhatan tribe but the Chief of the tribe persuades the natives to allow Captain Smith to live. The two becomes friends.
Through his new friendship, the Captain is introduced to Pocahontas (Q'Orianka Kilcher). The two overcome cultural barriers and fall in love. Soon Pocahontas is wooed by a fellow English suitor, John Rolfe (Christian Bale).
Malick's filmography is once again stunning and exquisitely breath-taking. The New World is a film that encompasses history, love, action and war and has all the Malick attributes of an enjoyable epic.
The New World opens on Friday, 27th January.
