Bollywood Season to run in the IFI on the first weekend of every month.
The Irish Film Centre have introduced an exciting new season of cinema in Dublin for 2006. The Bollywood Season will include the latest releases of Indian films. Paheli will be screened in the first weekend in February. This ghost story romance can be seen in Screen One at 12 noon on Saturday and Sunday.
Paheli (The Mystery) has all the elements of contemporary Bollywood. It's a movie all about music, passion, colour and drama. Paheli is based on novelist Vijaydan Detha's retelling of a popular folktale. A young innocent bride is abandoned by her workaholic husband (superstar Shah Rukh Khan). A love smitten ghost assumes her husband's identity and seduces the young woman.
Paheli intertwines folklore with cutting-edge fantasy. Parts are reminiscent of Hindi folkloristic cinema in the 1950's while at the same time Paheli has a very modern light look. The colourful cinema photography is the work of former art-house director Amol Palekar.
Dublin cinema will certainly come to light with the highly vibrant Paheli release.
Paheli will open on Saturday, 4th February in the Irish Film Centre.
