Samuel Beckett Centenary Festival

Irish Film Institute to present Samuel Beckett films in April.

The Samuel Beckett Centenary Festival will take place in Dublin in April. As part of the celebration, the Irish Film Institute are presenting an eclectic and riveting programme of films recounting the work of Samuel Beckett.

The Irish Film Institute will also co-ordinate a tour of the line-up to cinemas around the country and visit other major Irish cities such as Cork, Sligo, Belfast and Galway. Screenings and discussions will also take place in schools.

Documentary films, Archive films and a selection entitled Directing Beckett will be screened. The Documentaries include Prisonniers de Beckett (Prisoners of Beckett) directed by Mischka Saal, Samuel Beckett: As the Story Was Told directed by Seán Ó Mordha  and The Making of 'Rockaby' directed by D.A. Pennebaker.

The Irish Film Institute will screen some Archive films both directed by Alan Schneider;Waiting for Godot and Film. The series of films under the title Directing Beckett include Krapps Last Tape directed by Atom Egoyan, Eh Joe directed by Alan Gilsenan. Playwright David Mamet's  Catastrophe and well-known director, Anthony Minghella's Play will also be screened.

This  is a diverse selection of films to be screened by the Irish Film Institute covering eclectic aspects of the great Samuel Beckett.
