You know, it hasn't been a bad auld year for Dublin-based instrumental and electronic soundscape artists Halves. They've released their self-titled debut EP (which received both national and international airplay); won rave reviews for both the EP and their live shows; supported the likes of Cathy Davey, 65 Days of Static and British Sea Power; nabbed themselves a European distribution deal with Cargo and played major festivals in Ireland and abroad! Not bad for a band who only played their first gig in Tower Records last May (their fourth gig, by the way, was at Electric Picnic).

This year looks set to be even better. The lads have already been invited to perform at the London Calling Arts Festival in June, and at the very first Transmission festival (in a mountain-top amphitheatre in Kufstein, Austria!) this July. They'll not only be the only Irish band playing Transmission, but also only unsigned act there - meaning they get the chance to appear alongside big names (and Halves musical idols) such as Mogwai, Efterklang and Spiritualised!

And what better way for the lads to celebrate the start of such a great year  than with a very special gig in Whelans on 17th May, to launch their brand-new (and rather gorgeous) EP Haunt Me When I'm Drowsy?

With a rich, multi-layered sound, with haunting strings and an almost endless array of instruments (everything from glockenspiels and bells to electronic drums) alongside the band's trademark ethereal vocals and stunning visuals, Halves' live shows promise a truly original and captivating experience - and they never disappoint.
