With its foundations laid in 1928, the theatre still attracts creative talent and offers tempting programs to all the theater goers. The theatre has become internationally renowned as one of the most adventurous and far-sighted play houses in Europe. The Gate Theatre maintains a high profile overseas, and also pursues a standard of excellence in producing new Irish plays and Irish and European classics at home.
The Gate has also improved and refurbished its 18th century building. Developments include a wheelchair lift which caters to the disabled audiences also. Coming in its 76th year the Gate must device some new exciting and refurbished plans to renovate not only its building which is a unique architectural asset of its time but also contribute more to its artistic programs. The theatre is unique in that it has had only two artistic directorates in the last 75 years.
