The Miserable Failure of Bernard Comiskey

Playing at the International Bar from Monday, 26th September until Saturday, 1st October.(reviewed)

The Dublin Fringe Festival has even included Dublin pubs as venues for this year's extravaganza of entertainment. The International Bar will host a dark comedy written by Fintan O'Higgins. The Miserable Failure of Bernard Comiskey looks at a young man's life where he struggles to appease both clients and fiancée and fails drastically.

Bernard Comiskey can't seem to do anything right. He is having the worst of days. To try to improve matters, Bernard tells a few fibs but quickly finds himself entangled in a web of lies. He can't even seem to let the only property that he has on his books, the ramshackle 77 Hartley Crescent.

Jon David Yu plays Bernard and gives the character a very charged nervous energy which at times is hilarious and other times downright annoying. His interpretation of the character is excellent as it's impossible really to feel sorry for Mr. Comiskey because in essence he's quite the pratt. Bernard meets next-door neighbour, Imelda (Romy Tennant) to whom he tells all his frustrations. Romy Tennant also plays two other minor characters and really brings all the roles to life.

Glass Jellyfish Productions produced The Miserable Failure of Bernard Comiskey. This will be the third production from Glass Jellyfish Productions.  The company includes a vibrant crew from both Ireland and Britain.

The Miserable Failure of Bernard Comiskey is a short and witty drama with some hilarious lines and good sketches.
