Beckett Centenary Festival at the Gate Theatre
Running at the Gate in Dublin during April.

The first ever Samuel Beckett Festival at the Gate Theatre in Dublin was held in 1991. This Dublin theatrical festival consisted of producing 19 of Samuel Beckett's stage plays in a unique tribute with its partners Trinity College -Beckett's alma mater- and RTÉ. Since then the festival has toured to New York and London receiving a fantastic response.

This year, the Gate Theatre will play a central role in celebrating Samuel Beckett. Nine of his finest plays will be performed during April marking the centenary of Samuel Beckett's birth.

The Gate Theatre will work in conjunction with London's Barbican Theatre to present these plays in London as part of the BITE06. The opening of the Gate's celebrations will begin with a production of Rockaby directed by Loveday Ingram and starring Sian Phillips.

Highlights at the Gate Theatre include Eh Joe directed by Atom Egoyan (Where the Truth Lies) and starring Michael Gambon, Krapp's Last Tape  directed by Robin Lefèvre and starring John Hurt (Short Order).

Beckett's best known dramatic work, Waiting for Godot will also be performed with Walter Asmus directing and talented actors such as Barry Mc Govern and Alan Stanford performing.

The Samuel Beckett Centenary celebrations at the Gate will culminate with four performances of  Play and Catastrophe directed by Selina Cartmell and starring Owen Roe.

A thrilling programme with stellar actors and acclaimed directors will grace the Gate Theatre for the Samuel Beckett Centenary Festival in April.
