Sometimes it's hard to be a woman - especially when you're also a key players in one of the most important moment's in Irish history. But Countess Markievicz has to deal with this and much more in this fantastic new play from Carolyn Gage.

Set against the backdrop of the 1916 Rising, the drama unfolds as the Countess rehearses a play with her pacifist sister, Eva Gore-Booth, and Eva's girlfriend Esther Roper. Based on Eva's real-life writings, published posthumously by Eva, this play-within-a-play sets the scene for simmering frustrations high passion and an intense love triangle between three women involved in two very different types of revolution.

Inspired by the notable absence of detail in Markievicz's life-story on public tours (such as Kilmainham Gaol), Carolyn Gage wrote The Countess and the Lesbians to debunk the myths about the Countess, and provide some intelligent speculation about what really went on behind closed doors.

With a smart script and stellar cast of talented Dubs, this production promises to be a real treat for history and theatre buffs alike. You can book your tickets online now, or by e-mailing bookings@gaytheatre.com
