Whether you're already familiar with the remarkable story of intrepid Antarctic explorer Tom Crean, or you only know the name from the 2006 Guinness ad campaign, Aidan Dooley's one man show chronicling Crean's THREE expeditions to the Antarctic is an experienced not to be missed!
Written and performed by Dooley (who used to give tours based on Crean's life in his native Kerry), the play is hilarious, thrilling, tragic and terrifying in equal measures.
Dooley knows Crean's incredible story inside out, and it shows - the play feels less like a scripted performance and more like a fireside storytelling session from well-travelled uncle who's not so much kissed the blarney stone as bitten a great big chunk out of it!
Taking on the persona of Crean himself, Dooley doesn't skimp on the gorey details where they occur, but his cheerful and lively delivery means there's plenty of witty asides and observations to keep the play from descending into doom and gloom for too long. That said, Dooley himself admits he tailors each performance to the audience - so depending on the night the play couple be a rip-roaring comedy or a moving thought provoking tragedy (whichever it is, it's certainly never boring)!
If you haven't caught this amazing show yet, do yourself a favour and book your tickets now. In fact, even if you HAVE seen it before you should try to catch it again. After all, this fascinating tale of one of Ireland's most intrepid spirits is worth hearing again - and it's never the same show twice!
