The Comedy Cellar, upstairs at The International Bar, was founded in 1988 by Mr Trellis - a comedy group consisting of Dermot Carmody, Ardal O'Hanlon, Barry Murphy and Kevin Gildea. They began with a few sketches and stand-up shows whenever they had enough material to put on. After a few shows, other comedians and groups began to join in the fun, and so the Comedy Cellar was born.
These days, Mr Trellis have all moved on (you'll find their names scattered pretty prominently amongst the Dublinks.com Comedy listings!) but The Comedy Cellar is still going strong in the hands of the hilarious Andrew Stanley - who's also the show's resident MC. Quirky funnyman Andrew is a definite rising star (his hidden camera show I Dare Ya, co-starring the brilliant Damian Clark, just finished it's first season on RTE 1), and with new acts and old hands fighting for the stage the Comedy Cellar still guarantees a great night out every time!
