Tommy Emmanuel, Australian guitar virtuoso, plays Vicar Street on Friday, the 1st of July.
One of the highlights of Walton's Guitar Festival of Ireland 2005 is the appearance of a great guitarist from down under, Tommy Emmanuel.
Tommy Emmanuel has been entertaining audiences around the world with his guitar skills for three decades. A household name in his native Australia, Emmanuel has tens of thousands of loyal fans on all five continents. Known as a "musician's musician", Emmanuel is versatile in nearly every style of music, bringing the art of guitar to jazz, blues, country, rock, Spanish and classical music.
Along the way, Emmanuel has fulfilled many of his ambitions, which included recording his own compositions, playing concert halls and jamming with idol Chet Akins. Chet Atkins has become a big fan of Emmanuel describing him as "probably the greatest finger-picker in the world today".
A multi-platinum artist, Tommy Emmanuel has recorded a number of hit albums including Up From Down Under, The Journey and The Day Finger Pickers Took Over the World which features Chet Akins. In 1995, Emmanuel joined the Australian Philharmonic Orchestra to record another hit album, Classical Gas featuring a host of Emmanuel classics like "Run a Good Race", "Who Dares Wins" and "Initiation".
Tommy Emmanuel's latest album, Endless Road, is a tribute to his idol Chet Atkins, showcasing his skills on infectious songs like "Endless Road", "Tall Fiddler" and "Angelina".
