DJ Mike Grant

D1 presents deep house/techno DJ, Mike Grant at Model One in Traffic on Friday, the 10th of September.

Mike Grant soaked up the sounds and rhythms of Detroit from an early age with his uncle running a local R/B dance station and his association with the DJ collective known as Men of Music. Blake Baxter thought Grant all the intricacies of beat boxing and Grant eventually joined Baxter's group, The Beat Sound Company. In the early '80s, Grant began scoring residencies in Detroit clubs alongside legends such as Ken Collier and collaborating with Eddie Fowlkes, Derrick May and Juan Atkins.

In 1985, Grant became a member of Detroit's first radio mix show, Street Beat the programme where Detroit techno took shape. Grant made a commitment to join the military but continued to DJ on his military base and in Seattle, where he showcased the best of Detroit techno to the West Coast. After his period with the military, he studied in telecommunications in Chicago returning occasionally to perform in Detroit.

Mike Grant stepped back into the music arena in the late '90s with the “Nature of the Beast” recording as Black Noise on Metroplex Records. He began his own label, Moods & Grooves and began releasing his own work as well as his contemporaries. The popularity of the label brought Grant back into the spotlight and his growing reputation saw him make a high-profile appearance at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival. As the new millenium dawned, Grant unleashed his techno label, End to End, an urban sounding Afrosyntrix and a remix of the Detroit classic "Sharevari".

Not only is Grant celebrated in Detroit and the US, on a recent tour of Europe he earned the distinction of being the only US DJ to have a guest residency at Tresor Club in Berlin. An advocate of deep house and techno is respected either side of the Atlantic, Mike Grant plays Model One in Traffic on the 10th.
