Every second Thursday at the Castle Inn by Christchurch, an informal social club, Club Sult, get together to share and celebrate Irish language and culture.
Sult is a social club for those interested in the Irish language. It is aimed at those who want to learn to speak Irish as much as those who already do. The evening's entertainment is provided by a regular traditional Irish music group, as well as special guest performances by artists from a variety of backgrounds.
Past guests have included Rodrigo y Gabriela from Mexico, dancers Gavin de Poar (Dublin) and Laura Macias (Spain), and The Dublin Tango Orchestra, as well as traditional Irish musicians and performers.
The event starts at the usual time of 9pm and features the Sult House Band, sean-nós singer Maria Nic Cumhaill from Gaoth Dobhair, traditional musicians, Niall Mac Giolla Rua on keyboards, Helen Nic Giolla Rua on flute and Kathy Burke on fiddle, and opera singer Clíona Cassidy.
