Another array of exciting trad acts at the National Concert Hall from the 16th to the 18th of March.
The perfect way to get your St. Patrick Day celebrations going, this year's TradFest features another electric line up featuring famous fiddler, Frankie Gavin, renowned composer, Micheál O Súilleabháin and female folk group, Macalla.
The festival kicks off on Thursday, the 16th of March with a live screening of one of Ireland's greatest and silent film, Irish Destiny. Produced to mark the 10th anniversary of the Easter Rising, Irish Destiny is a love story pitted against the backdrop of the Irish War of Independence which contains actual newsreel footage of major events in the conflict.
The live screening will be accompanied by Mícheál O'Súilleabháin's specially commissioned score for the film performed by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra conducted by Proinnsías Ó Duinn. The concert will also feature a selection of Mícheál O'Súilleabháin's most popular piano pieces directed and led by the composer.
St Patrick's night will feature a gala concert of traditional music and song with legendary fiddler, Frankie Gavin. Gavin will set the stage alight leading his troupe of young musicians through an exciting landscape of tradition music while showcasing the talents of the Sean Nós Dancer and the three young fiddlers.
Bring the festival to a fitting close on Saturday, the 18th of March, with Mna na hEireann a concert celebrating the music and songs of Ireland through some of the finest female musicians who keep the song tradition alive.
The concert features Macalla, a group of female musicians who first came together in 1984 to express their music and creativity as a group for International Women's Day, and star guest for the evening is Pádraigín Ní Uallacháin, a northern Irish traditional singer and songwriter.
An excellent way to enjoy the best of Irish traditional music, TradFest takes place at the National Concert Hall from the 16th to the 18th of March.
