Eddie Izzard
The wonderful Eddie Izzard plays the Point Theatre on November 30th. Do not miss this gig.

Izzard's an absolute original who stands up there with (if not above) other British comedy legends Billy Connolly and Peter Cook (as Connolly recently accepted a knighthood, I think we can refer to him as such). He is one of the finest comedians ever to have emerged from the alternative scene in Britain.

He made a name for himself initially on the stand-up scene by the fact that he liked to wear woman's clothing. As happens a lot of transvestites, people like my Mum would say, but isn't he gay as well? However, no, apparently, Eddie is a straight bloke who happens to like a bit of blusher and nail polish. It all makes a lot of sense in his wonderfully skewed world, despite the fact that he's a quite a handsome chap, but looks like a fiercely ugly woman when he's done up in his regalia. Sorry Eddie, but you'll never win the pageant. You're a dog. Happily for us, he's an exceptionally amusing dog, whose surreal flights of fancy can only be described as belonging in the 'comedy of love', as he's one of the only comics (ever) to have audiences rolling around as they recognise his weird logic, without resorting to 'having a go' at anyone. Eddie, instead, is more likely to have a go at malevolent inanimate objects like chairs or praise the virtues of other items like toast.

His constant invention and innovation has pushed comedy to its furthest reaches. This always seems to work for him, as he's an immensely likeable and endearing character. Like all the best performers, you'd like him to be your mate.

In recent years, Izzard has been concentrating a lot on acting, with both funny and straight roles. Because he's not in charge of these ventures, the results are wildly variable and I personally can't wait until he writes a great role for himself and directs it himself, as he's invariably more talented than the material he's given to work with. He's been in The Revengers' Tragedy, Velvet Goldmine, Circus, Shadow of the Vampire, Mystery Men and The Cats' Meow, with the latter yet to secure a release here. He most recently appeared in the TV drama 40 and appeared on Broadway in A Day in the Death of Joe Egg.

But in November, he's here, doing what he's most celebrated for and that's stand-up comedy with his brand new show Sexie.

Tickets aren't on sale yet, but when that are, we'll tell you how much and all that boring stuff...
