Ardal O'Hanlon, hilarious Irish stand-up, plays Vicar Street on the Thursday, the 25th and Friday, the 26th of May.
Ardal O'Hanlon shot to fame in the early '90s as the innocent priest, Father Dougal in the classic sitcom, Father Ted. A brilliant comedy actor, O'Hanlon has years of experience as a stand-up and brings his new show to the capitol for two nights in May.
Ardal O'Hanlon came on the Irish comedy scene in the early '90s when he formed the comedy troupe, Mr Trellis with Barry Murphy and Kevin Gildea, and established the first Irish alternative comedy club, The Comedy Cellar at The International Bar.
In 1994, O'Hanlon won The Comedy Newcomer of the Year competition in London and more good fortune was to follow when Father Ted writer, Graham Linehan caught one of his comedy routines. Linehan was looking for an actor for the role of Father Dougal McGuire and O'Hanlon fitted the bill perfectly.
Father Ted went on to become one of the most popular sitcoms of the '90s and made O'Hanlon a star. After Father Ted, O'Hanlon returned to the comedy stage and surprised audiences with his witty, often surreal and imaginative brand of stand-up.
In the last decade, O'Hanlon has brought his stand-up show around the world, written a novel called, The Talk of the Town and put in winning performance in the Comic Relief Christmas Day animation special, Robbie The Reindeer - Hooves of Fire and TV shows like My Hero and Big Bad Word.
Expect to see the man vaunting his acting skills soon on the BBC in Ben Elton's new sit-com, Blessed where O'Hanlon plays a busy record producer who is having trouble trying to fit in his family life.
For his shows in Vicar Street, Ardal O'Hanlon turns philosophical as he hits 40, lamenting his lost youth and searching for meaning in his life with his trademark hilarious flight of fancy and astute observations on the follies of everyday life.
A night of hilarious, surreal comedy, Ardal O'Hanlon plays Vicar Street on Thursday, the 25th and 26th of May.
