Tommy Tiernan
It seems Dublin just can't get enough of Tommy Tiernan, with yet another run at Vicar Street in May.

Tommy Tiernan is taking the world my storm with a standing ovation from two thousand Canadians in Montreal and a brace of glowing reviews in some of New York's finest publications. But Tiernan remains the funniest in front of a home crowd in Ireland where he has his finger on the pulse of each no bizarre turn in Irish culture and is very capable of making comic gold out of it.

Tommy Tiernan hails from Navan, decamped to Galway in his 20s and somehow stumbled into the world of comedy. He success was meteoric. From his humble beginnings in Galway's GPO and Dublin's Comedy Cellar, he went onto to win "So You Think You're Funny" in 1996 and two years later bagged the coveted Perrier Award.

Along the way, Tiernan poked some fun at religion on The Late Late Show, the crowd reacted badly and he became a media pariah for his blasphemy. But this infamy made him in a way, the coverage gave him national prominence and his ability to stick to this old stuffy institution saw him build up a cult following. Tiernan used the episode to create some of the funniest material this reviewers ever seen and established him as a courageous and irreverent comic.

Tommy Tiernan has flirted with TV and film featuring in About Adam, Father Ted, The BBC Stand-up Show and his own show based around a walking tour of Ireland, Supertramp. But his has never allowed television and film distract him from his real passion, live standup. Tommy's latest show, Loose continues his obsession with Sex, Religion, Family and whatever happens to come into his mind while he is onstage.

Tommy Tiernan released his new DVD Cracked last year, which was recorded during his amazing 64-night run in Vicar Street in 2003. Tommy Tiernan will be at Vicar Street on the 11th,12th, 13th, 14th,19th and 20th of May.
