The Sick and Indigent Song Club
A wonderful collection of folk, bluegrass and country upstairs at the Ha'penny Bridge Inn every Monday night.

The Sick and Indigent Song Club are a collection of talented musicians who play old time music dipping into a broad range of styles including blues, country, folk, sea shanties, gospel, burlesque and bluegrass.

Our story begins a few years ago when Dublin songwriter Gary FitzPatrick met Scottish singer Angie McLaughlin and agreed to bring her to an open mike night in the Ha'penny Bridge Inn to play a few songs.

When they arrived at the venue, the host for the night had failed to show and an anxious bar tender drafted McLaughlin and FitzPatrick to run proceedings. After a few weeks, the two musicians had built up a band of like-minded souls dedicated to singing their favourite songs under the title The Sick and Indigent Song Club.

Over the next two years, The Sick and Indigent Song Club grew into a multi-instrumental six piece featuring the musical talents of Shane McGrath, Shelia Sullivan, Christian Volkmann, and Gerry FitzPatrick.

By broadening their sound with a broad range of instruments including Ukulele, Mandolin, Harmonicas, Dobro and Washboard, The Sick and Indigent Song Club create the easy ambience of old time recordings while performing a mixture of original, traditional and covers with rousing six piece harmonies.

Soon word got around Dublin and The Sick and Indigent Song Club were playing to packed houses every Monday and the club was soon building up a dedicated following for their infectious brand of old time music.

Coming from a broad range of musical styles, the musicians in The Sick and Indigent Song Club seems to revel in the freedom of crossing genres, reintrepreting and reintroducing lost classics and showcasing  their own songs to a new audience.

The formidable singing talents of FitzPatrick, McLaughlin and McGrath taking centre stage but the club is at heart a collection of people who like to sing songs so each member of the group gets a chance to let their vocal talents shine.

A great collection of songs, gifted singers, inspiring arrangements and talented songwriters, The Sick and Indigent Song Club takes place every Monday night at the Ha'penny Bridge Inn.
