Jose Carreras
Jose Carreras, world-renowned tenor, plays an exclusive concert at The Point on Saturday, the 30th of April.

Many music fan's first introduction to Jose Carreras came through the Three Tenor concerts which led them to discover the musical legacy of one of the most beautiful voices in the world of opera. At the end of April, Jose Carreras brings his wonderful tenor voice to Dublin for a concert  in the company of the RTE Concert Orchestra at the Point Theatre.

Jose Carreras was born in Barcelona in 1946 and began singing at a very early age inspired by the film biography The Great Caruso, starring Mario Lanza. He studied at first with Francisco Puig and later with Juan Ruax, who became Carreras artistic father and encouraged him to audition for the role of Flavio in Bellini's Norma.

The beauty of his performances as Flavio was noticed not only by the critics but also by the great soprano in the title role, Monsterrat Caballe. She asked him to sing Gennaro with her in Donizetti's Lucrezia Borgia, his first principal role and one that helped to launch his distinguished career.

A decade later and Carreras had forged an international reputation with wonderful performances at the New York City Opera, Covent Garden and the Vienna State Opera. In 1987, Carreras was diagnosed with blood disease leukaemia and it was during his treatment that the Three Tenors phenomenon was born.

Carreras had competed with Domingo and Pavarotti in the world of opera for years but as the Three Tenors the men formed a genuine friendship and created a musical partnership that entranced tens of million of fans. Now in his fifties, Carreras' voice is older and darker but still has the vital, vivid presence of a born performer.

A night of unforgettable singing from one of the world's greatest tenors, Jose Carreras plays The Point Theatre on the 30th of April.
