Came So Far For Beauty - An Evening of Leonard Cohen Songs

At The Point Theatre, on Saturday, the 4th and 5th of October.

An eclectic all-star line-up of performers come to the Dublin Theatre Festival in a unique and joyous celebration honouring the legendary poet and singer-songwriter, Leonard Cohen entitled Came So Far For Beauty as part of the Dublin Theatre Festival.

 

Hal Wilner, one of the world's most visionary and original music producers, curates the programme of brilliant arrangements of Cohen classics with a stellar cast of performers including Antony, Laurie Anderson, Nick Cave, Lou Reed, Jarvis Cocker, Gavin Friday, Beth Orton, Teddy Thompson, The Handsome Family and more.

 

With two novels and poetry volumes already published, Leonard Cohen's 1968 debut album, The Songs of Leonard Cohen brought a new voice to the rock canon that influenced generations of musicians and created a devoted following around the world.

 

Over the last four decades, Cohen has released classic albums like Songs of Love and Hate, I'm Your Man and Various Positions and timeless songs like "Suzanne", "The Sisters of Mercy", "Chelsea Hotel", "Dance Me To The End of Love", "Famous Blue Raincoat" and "Take This Waltz".

 

The songs have beautiful melodies and dark poetic lyrics with a rare depth and sophistication that have mesmerized and haunted musicians and music fans alike. Cohen's songs have been covered by countless bands and solo artists, most telling by Jeff Buckley's stunning version of "Hallelujah" on his debut album, Grace.

 

Now artists of the calibre of Lou Reed, Nick Cave and Antony will be reinterpreting Cohen's song with each performer bring their distinctive musical personality to some of the finest songs of the past 50 years.

 

Touching on jazz, rock, folk, electronica and blues, Hal Wilner innovative arrangements will feature the musical talents of jazz trumpeter Steve Bernstein, multi-instrumentalists, Rob Burger and David Coulter, violinists, Charlie Burnham and Maxim Moston, bassist Don Falzone, saxophonist Briggan Krauss and drummer Kenny Wollesen.

 

Promising to be the hit of this year's Dublin Theatre Festival, Came So Far For Beauty - An Evening of Leonard Cohen Songs will be two amazing nights for all Leonard Cohen fans.
