The John Butler Trio is one of the most popular rock groups in Australia and has been the best-kept secret down under for too long. The Trio bring their stunning live show to Dublin for a gig at the end of June.

The John Butler Trio comprises the talents of John Butler on guitar and vocals, Michael Barker on drums and Shannon Birchall on upright bass. The Trio effortlessly combine gritty soulful vocals, elements of hip-hop, and Appalachian folk with subtle hints of everything from reggae to Zeppelin. John Butler is a multi-talented musician, who plays a variety of instruments including the 12-string guitar, the lap steel and the banjo.

John Butler's has an American mother and an Australian father and back along the way some Irish descendants as well. Butler was born in the US and moved back to Australia when he was a young boy. Settling in a small Australian town, Butler's talent for music began to blossom and he took his first tentative steps at songwriting and live performance.

John Butler released a number of successful albums since 1998 including John Butler, Three and Living but he really hit the big time with his fourth album, Sunrise Over Sea. The album debuted at number one in the Australian charts, marking the highest point ever achieved by an independently released artist. Subsequently the John Butler Trio signed with US Independent, Lava Records and his new album is due next year.
