Jim Reid
Jim Reid, iconic Scottish indie rock star, plays Whelans on Tuesday, the 20th of June.
Former Jesus and Mary Chain singer, Jim Reid comes to the capitol to make a rare live appearance, showcasing songs from his new solo album with an intimate performance at Whelans.
This show will be Jim's first in Ireland since the Mary Chain played The Olympia Theatre in 1998. A few months later the band would split up dramatically onstage in LA when the arguments that had always been present between Jim and his brother William reached boiling point.
Following on the success of last year's "Songs For A Secret" single, Reid has been performing live again with a new band that features with former Lush lead bassist now on guitar, Phil King, former Ride and Creation label mate, drummer Loz Colbert and Mark Crozer on bass.
A debut album is on the pipeline and Jim will release his second solo single, "Dead End Kids" in July, a month that will see a flurry of Reid activitiy including reissues of the first five Mary Chain albums, a MOJO cover-mount CD featuring Jim's version of The Beatles' "And Your Bird Can Sing" and more live dates.
Jim Reid began his musical career as the front man of The Jesus and Mary Chain in 1984 merging the sprawling white noise of The Velvet Underground with the pop melodies of Phil Spector and The Ramones on classic albums like Pyschocandy, Darklands, Automatic, Honey's Dead and Stoned & Dethroned.
As a solo artist, Jim Reid's song features the same classic melodies and great lyrics but with a softer feel to his former band, making this chance to hear this great singer showcase all the new songs from his debut album all the sweeter.
A night of classic rock tunes, Jim Reid plays Whelans on Tuesday, the 20th of June.
