Reel Big Fish

Reel Big Fish, American ska-rock band, play The Village on Saturday, the 28th of January.

Reel Big Fish are one of the most successful bands in the American ska rock scene of the '90s, having shifted over a million records with five hit albums including Everything Sucks, Turn the Radio Off and their most recent album, We're Not Happy 'Til You're Not Happy.

Hailing from California, Reel Big Fish comprises the musical talents of vocalist and guitarist, Aaron Barrett, bassist, Matt Wong, drummer, Andrew Gonzales and a floating horn section that finally settled on Tavis Werts and Scott Klopfenstein on trumpet, and Gary Barry and Dan Regan on trombone.

In 1995, Reel Big Fish recorded and released their debut album, Everything Sucks which became an underground hit on the indie scene. Signed to indie label Mojo Records, the band recorded Turn the Radio Off and toured extensively around America to build up their fan base.

With other ska-rock bands like No Doubt and Sublime scaling the charts, Reel Big Fish scored a hit with their single, "Sell Out", receiving heavy radio play and support from MTV for the song's video.

Reel Big Fish followed on the success of Turn the Radio Off with the Why Do They Rock So Hard album featuring such witty titles as "Thanking You for Not Moshing" and "I Want Your Girlfriend to Be My Girlfriend Too".

After re-releasing Everything Sucks in 2000, Big Reel Fish's sound started developing into power pop although the jangly guitar, brassy horns and wicked sense of humour is still there on "Ban the Tube Top", "Good Thing" and "Suckers".

Reel Big Fish's most recent album, We're Not Happy 'Til You're Not Happy deals with the band's conflicting feelings about the music business with songs like "Don't Start a Band", "Turn the Radio Off" and a cover of Morrissey's "We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful".

While the band take a crack at the music industry, rock radio and unimaginative rock fans, We're Not Happy 'Til You're Not Happy is smothered in infectious riffs and unforgettable catchy lyrics that demonstrate that Reel Big Fish are still the last of the true believers.

A night of catchy ska rock hits, Reel Big Fish play The Village on the 28th.
