The Strokes, American Indie rock group, play Oxegen 2006 on Saturday, the 8th of July.
After their sellout show at The Point, The Strokes return to Ireland performing songs from their new album, First Impressions of Earth at Oxegen 2006.
The Stroke have spent bones of a year decamped in a studio recording new tunes like "Jicebox", "Heart in a Cage" and "Vision of Division" for their third album, First Impressions of Earth with producer David Kahne, who previously worked with The Bangles and Steriogram.
The Strokes heralded in a new brand of rock & roll for the new millenium with an infectious brand of indie rock reminiscent of New York legends, The Velvet Underground and Television.
Following The Strokes lead, a whole generation of exciting new rock bands began springing up all over America and Europe and Casablancas & Co. were seen as the leaders of this new rock generation.
The Strokes took embryonic shape in 1998 when singer, Julian Casablancas, drummer, Fabrizio Moretti and guitarist, Nick Valensi started playing together while they attended Dwight School. With bassist Nikolai Fraiture and guitarist, Albert Hammond on board, Casablancas christened the band, The Strokes and the boys spent the next year writing and rehearsing.
When The Strokes took their songs to the live stage, they started to make waves in the New York live scene with blistering performances at Arlene's Grocery, the Mercury Lounge and the Bowery Ballroom. When Rough Trade released The Modern Age EP in 2001, the word was out and The Strokes became one of the hottest properties on the music scene.
The Strokes released their debut album, Is This It? receiving ecstatic reviews from infectious tunes like "Last Night", "The Modern Age" and "Hard To Explain". The Strokes spent the next year bringing their live show around the world before starting work on their second album with producer, Nigel Godrich.
The Strokes were not happy with the sessions with Godrich and returned to the producer of the debut, David Raphael to finish the album, Room On Fire. On the assumption that if it ain't broke don't fix it, Room On Fire follows on from the trademark sound of their debut with songs like "You Talk Too Much", "Under Control" and "The End Had No End".
A wonderful invitation to hear all the rock tunes from First Impressions of Earth live, The Strokes play Oxegen on Saturday, the 8th of July.
