Kaiser Chiefs, purveyors of pogo-inducing pop music, play Oxegen 2006 on Sunday, the 9th of July.
The big music story of 2005, Kaiser Chiefs recently blitzed the Brit Awards by scooping three prestigious awards, British Rock Act, British Live Act and British Group and picked up two Meteor Ireland Music Awards for Best International Group and Album.
Kaiser Chiefs comprises the musical talents of Ricky Wilson on vocals, Andrew White on guitar, Simon Rix on bass, Nick Baines on keyboard and Nick Hodgson on drums. Taking their name from a South African football team, Kaiser Chiefs was soon causing a riot on the live scene and creating waves in the neo-wave revolution created by Franz Ferdinand.
The band's first single "I Predict a Riot", a song inspired by Wilson's time as a club DJ in Leeds, went Top 40 in the UK upon it release. The song introduced Kaiser Chief's wonderful concoction of mod style and early '80s pop and had critics pegging them as the rising stars of the UK music scene.
Kaiser Chiefs' next single, "Oh My God" proved to be an even bigger hit and "I Predict a Riot" also became a big hit on US college radio. Kaiser Chiefs was chosen as the opening act of the NME's 2005 Awards Tour and came in at No. 5 in the BBC News website Sound of 2005 Poll.
Kaiser Chiefs delivered the record of 2005 with their debut album, Employment taking up the same imaginative space as The Jam and The Kinks with infectious songs like "Modern Ways", "Team Mate" and "Everyday I Love You Less and Less".
With the world at their feet, everyone is waiting to see what the Kaiser Chiefs will do next. Find out at Oxegen when Kaiser Chiefs knock out one of their show stealing performances.
