Having played to 115,000 fans at Phoenix Park, The Red Hot Chili Peppers bring their heady brew of funk and punk back to Ireland for a performance at Oxegen 2006.

Singer Anthony Kiedis and bassist 'Flea' formed the band in the early eighties and went through various line-up changes over the years. It took them until the early nineties to be commercially successful.

With drummer Chad Smith and wonderboy guitarist John Frusciante, the Chilis started making inroads with their 1989 album Mothers Milk. But it was their 1991 album Blood Sugar Sex Magic with famed producer Rick Rubin that made them global superstars and remains their best work.

Off this came the singles Under the Bridge, Breaking the Girl and Give It Away. These massive hits and their appearance at the 1992 Lollapalooza tour cemented their status as one of the biggest bands of the time.

In 1993, John Frusciante left because of a drug habit and the band recruited ex-Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro to record the album One Hot Minute, but it simply was not the same.

By 1998 Frusciante had overcome his drug addiction and came back to record Californication, which was massively successful and By The Way reconfirmed the Chilli Peppers as of rock's most consistent and exciting band. 

Now, Red Hot Chilli Peppers are set to play their only Irish date of their forthcoming tour at Oxegen, showcasing songs from their eagerly anticipated 9^th studio album, Stadium Arcadium.

Promising to be one of the defining performances of the festival, Red Hot Chilli Peppers play Oxegen on Sunday, the 9^th of July.
