Patrick Street, legendary Irish traditional music group, play Whelans on Friday, the 15th of September.
Combining the talents of some Ireland's most gifted traditional players, Patrick Street could be described as a 'folk supergroup' comprising the talents of four musicians who between them have played with legendary trad groups like Planxty, The Bothy Band, DeDanaan and Sweeney's Men.
The formidable line-up of Patrick Street comprise the musical talents of Kevin Burke on the fiddle, Jackie Daly on button accordion, Andy Irvine on bouzouki and vocals and Ged Foley on guitar. Their magical musical chemistry is one of Irish folk's best kept secrets.
Patrick Street began life in 1986 when Irvine, Burke, Daly and Gerry O'Beirne toured the United States as Legends of Irish Music and after a very successful tour they decided to cement their musical relationship as Patrick Street.
Having forged a scintillating live reputation, Patrick Street went into the studio with Donal Lunny to record their debut album, Patrick Street with Arty McGlynn replacing Gerry O'Beirne and Lunny adding keyboards and bodhràn to infectious traditional.
Patrick Street became a musical open house with Enda Walsh playing on No. 2 Patrick Street and songwriter Gerry O'Beirne returning to the line-up to replace the departing Arty McGlynn on 3 Irish Times 3 alongside guests like fiddler James Kelly, uilleann piper Declan Masterson, and pianist Bill Whelan, the man behind Riverdance.
On Patrick Street's most recent album Street Life, Burke, Irvine, Daly and Foley recorded in four studios in Ohio, Ireland, New York and Oregon with another line-up of great traditional players with contributions from guitarist Steve Cooney, American folk multi-instrumentalist, Bruce Molsky and film composer and musician, Cal Scott.
A night of outstanding traditional Irish music, Patrick Street play Whelans on Friday, the 15th of September.
