Irish Chamber Orchestra

The Irish Chamber Orchestra plays the National Concert Hall on Sunday, the 26th of September.

The Irish Chamber Orchestra is one of Ireland's most accomplished ensembles consisting of the crème de la crème of Irish string players. On the Irish and international concert scene, the orchestra has gained a reputation as a vibrant, refreshing and influential force on the classical and contemporary music world.

 

Under the dynamic leadership of music director Nicholas McGegan, the Irish Chamber Orchestra repertoire ranges from the romanticism of Tchaikovsky to modern day masterpieces by Philip Glass to new works by Irish composers such as Raymond Deane and Bill Whelan. The Irish Chamber Orchestra has charmed audiences in South Korea, China, the UK, France, Australia and the US and recently toured five new EU member states.

 

The orchestra maintains associations with celebrated international artists including English violin virtuoso Nigel Kennedy, Italian viola player Bruno Giuranna and pianist Maria Joao Pires. The Irish Chamber Orchestra also commissions and performs new works by Irish and International composers, records classical and contemporary works and organises the Shannon International Music Festival.

 

The Irish Chamber Orchestra performance in the National Concert Hall will feature works by Corelli, Purcell, Mendelssohn and a world premiere of John Kinsella's Symphony No. 9. Under Nicholas McGregor's baton, the Irish Chamber Orchestra will be joined by violinist, Catherine Leonard and pianist, Finghin Collins.
