Nada Surf
Nada Surf, melodic American indie band, play Whelans on Sunday, the 30th of April.
Nada Surf showcase songs from their critically acclaimed album, The Weight is a Gift with a rocking concert in the capitol in April.
Matthew Caws and Daniel Lorca met in high school and discovered they had the same penchant for classic bands like The Modern Lovers, Big Star and New Order. After a few short-lived bands, the duo eventually formed a trio and called the band Nada Surf.
After landing a deal with a European label, Nada Surf recorded an album and their original drummer left to be replaced by ex-Fuzztone drummer, Ira Elliot. The deal fell through and the boys used the recordings to release the Karmic EP, which caught the ear of Elektra and producer, Ric Ocasek.
Signed, sealed and delivered, Nada Surf released their debut album, High/Low featuring the popular MTV hit, "Popular". Decamped back in the studio, Nada Surf began working on their second album, The Proximity Effect but the band began to experience difficulties with Elektra and were dropped.
Meanwhile The Proximity Effect began to eat up the chart in Europe and Nada Surf wrestled their rights back and released the album in the US on their own label, MarDev Records. Nada Surf went to Los Angeles to record their next album, Let Go featuring unabashedly romantic songs like "The Way You Wear Your Head", "Inside of Love" and "Hi-Speed Soul".
Picking up where Let Go left off, The Weight is a Gift is another set of fine pop songs from a fine bunch of fellows who want to fall in love, who are not afraid to be a little dark and who want to make music that is memorable and danceable.
A night of modern day indie hits for the kids, Nada Surf play Whelans on the 30th.
