HIM
HIM, Finnish Goth rock band, plays The Ambassador on Thursday, the 27th and Friday, the 28th of April.
Having sold out their last Irish shows at The Ambassador, HIM returns to Dublin showcasing songs from their new album, Dark Light with a performance in the capitol in April.
HIM was formed in Finland in 1995 by vocalist and songwriter Ville Hermani Vallo, bassist Mige Amour, guitarist Lily Lazer, drummer Gas Lipstick and keyboardist Zoltan Pluto. HIM's quest was to reprise all the dark foreboding and doomed romance of '80s goth rock acts like Sisters of Mercy.
Their debut EP "666 Ways to Love" was released in 1996 and proved to be an instant hit in the Scandinavian market. HIM refined their distinctive combination of haunting melodies and poetic lyrics for their debut album Greatest Love Songs, Vol.666 and even covered the Chris Isaak classic "Wicked Game".
HIM soon began to spread their gospel beyond Scandinavia winning fans across Europe and making inroad into the American market through extensive touring. In 2000, the band released their second album, Razorblade Romance with production credits featuring John Fryer, who previously worked with White Zombies and Nine Inch Nails. The album consolidated HIM cult status across Europe while fleshing out their 'love metal' concept with songs like "Join Me In Death" and "Right Here In My Arms".
After the release of Razorblade Romance, Zoltan Pluto left the band and was replaced by Emerson Burton. HIM released their third album Deep Shadow & Brilliant Highlights in 2001 keeping their legions of fans in raptures with songs like "In Joy and Sorrow" and "Pretending". HIM began to get wider recognition in the US counting among the fans actress Juliette Lewis, Ozzy Osbourne and Bam Margera and re-released Razorblade Romance through Universal Records in 2003.
HIM's most recent album Love Metal was a transatlantic affair, produced and recorded in Helsinki by Hiili Hiilesmaa and mixed by at the famous Scream Studios in Los Angeles by Tim Palmer, who previously worked with U2. Love Metal features the band's big hit single "Buried Alive by Love" alongside HIM favourites like "The Funeral of Hearts" and "Beyond Redemption".
