The Goo Goo Dolls
The Goo Goo Dolls, American indie rock group, play The Ambassador Theatre on Friday, the 26th of May.

The Goo Goo Dolls come to the capitol showcasing songs from their recently released, eight album, Let Love In.

Since forming in 1986, The Goo Goo Dolls have evolved from a scrappy punk trio into the platinum-selling, chart-topping act behind massive chart hits like "Name", "Slide", "Here is Gone" and "Iris", the landmark power ballad recorded for the City of Angels soundtrack.

Formed in Buffalo in 1985, The Goo Goo Dolls comprised the musical talents of guitarist and vocalist, Johnny Rzeznik, bassist Robby Takac and drummer George Tutuska.

Inspired by classic rock & roll, The Goo Goo Dolls began writing songs reminiscent of the punk rock sound of The Replacements and attracted the attention of the heavy metal label Metal Blade.

The Goo Goo Dolls released their debut album in 1987, followed up with Jed in 1989 and made a breakthrough on the alternative scene with their third album, Hold Me Up. Music critics greeted their next opus 1993's Superstar Car Wash with glowing reviews for infectious pop songs like "We Are the Normal", which was co-written with Paul Westerberg from The Replacements.

Carving their own niche in the alternative scene, mainstream success crept up on The Goo Goo Dolls with the 1995 album, A Boy Named Goo. A radio station in LA began to play the rock ballad "Name" in heavy rotation, released as a single the song climbed into the dizzying heights of the pop charts and the album became a platinum seller.

After replacing drummer Tutuska with Mike Malinin and moving from Metal Blade to Warner Brothers, The Goo Goo Dolls contributed the power ballad, "Iris" to the soundtrack for City of Angels. As "Iris" became one of the most popular songs of 1998, the band released their new album, Dizzy Up the Girl and sold three million records.

In 2002, The Goo Goo Dolls hit the singles charts with "Here Is Gone" and were back in the album charts with Gutterflower. For their latest album, The Goo Goo Dolls were joined by produce, Glen Ballard, famed producer of Alanis Morissette and Aerosmith, on a new collection of songs including infectious tunes like "Better Days", "Stay with You" and "Without You Here".

A night of power ballads and rock hits, The Goo Goo Dolls play The Ambassador on the 26th of May.
