Hard-Fi, British indie pop band, play Oxegen on Saturday, the 8th of July.
The seeds of Hard-Fi were sown when songwriter Richard Archer had to return to the harsh urban landscape of his hometown of Staines after a family crisis.
Trapped in the grim reality of forgotten British satellite towns, Archer began looking at his surrounding in as cold a light as poets of English suburbia like Terry Hall and Ray Davies, and began writings songs about life in Staines.
With many songs written and demoed, Archer began looking out for musicians to play with and enlisted an old friend from Lancaster, Steve Kemp who happened to be a talented drummer, guitarist Ross Philip who worked in the local hi-fi shop and bassist Kai Stephens who worked for Rent-O-Kill.
Decamped in the band's "Cherry Lips" studio, a former 24 hour cab office in a Staines industrial estate, Hard-Fi recorded their impressive debut album, Stars of CCTV with producer Wolsey White for £300. Star of CCTV features songs an infectious blend of pop, indie and dance music on songs like "Living For The Weekend", "Cash Machine" and "Hard To Beat".
Released on Necessary Records, Stars of CCTV sold out within weeks, was hailed by record industry legends like Rick Rubin and secured the band a deal with Atlantic Records. With a debut album rising up charts, a host of hit singles and growing fan base, everyone will be watching to see what Hard-Fi will do next.
