Erick Morillo bring his irresistible mix of Latin house music to Oxegen, on Saturday the 8th of July.
Over the last decade, Erick Morillo has become one of the most popular DJs in the world with his own record label, Subliminal and a raft of hits including "I Like to Move It".
Born in the United States, Erick Morillo was raised in Columbia where he grew accustomed to salsa and merengue music before moving back to New York with his mother at the age of 11.
In New York, Morillo began DJing and was soon hanging out with house honchos Mark Anthony, Louie Vega and Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez. Having pieced his own studio together, Morillo began sending his fledging production to record labels and Strictly Rhythm sat up when they heard the track, "The New Anthem".
Taking on the moniker Reel 2 Real, Morillo scored a hit with "The New Anthem" and scored a monumental international hit with his next release, "I Like To Move It". After the release of the Move It! album in 1994 and a score of chart hits, Morillo brought Reel 2 Real to an end to concentrate on DJing.
In 1998, he launched Subliminal Records with his production partners, Harry Romero and Jose Nunez to pump out the kind of funky, soulful Latin house music Morillo had made popular around the world.
With smash hits like Who Da Funk's "Shiny Disco Balls" and underground classics like Ministers de la Funk's "Believe", Subliminal quickly became one of the most popular labels in house music and was voted Best Label at the Muzik Awards for two years running.
Having set up one of the hottest dance events in New York with his weekly Session parties, Morillo took the Subliminal vibe to the Crobar party in Miami and Pacha in Ibiza. His busy schedule sees the ever popular Morillo crisscrossing the world to play 30 gigs a month in clubs in New York, London, Moscow, Amsterdam and Madrid.
A set of classic house hits and floor fillers, Erick Morillo plays Oxegen on Saturday the 8th of July.
