Take 6, American vocal ensemble, plays the National Concert Hall on Saturday, the 10th of September.
Performing mainly in an all-voice, no-instrument 'a cappella' format, Take 6 has sold millions of albums, won nine Grammy Awards, and continues to surprise, delight and amaze at every turn.
Take 6 comprise the musical talents of Alvin Chea, Cedric Dent, Joel Kibble, Mark Kibble, Claude Knight and David Thomas and began as an a cappella gospel quartet at a small college in Alabama. Take 6's early repertoire was based on classic gospel quartet singing and their debut CD featured a lot of songs from the vintage quartet repertoire.
While never losing their grounding bedrock gospel, Take 6 built a style and catalogue of songs from such diverse musical genres into their trademark sound. Take 6 musical interest has dipped into Jazz, Doo-Wop, R&B, Soul and Hip-Hop having decided that is the song is excellent, they are willing to borrow from other genres.
Take 6's harmonic eloquence and vocal pyrotechnics represent some of the best a cappela ever recorded and performed, and they have consistently found ways to blend new influences and techniques with their own music to create a musical experience that defies musical categorisation.
